The 2005 Kentucky State Fair is just around the corner, and this year, Jill and I decided to try our hands at making an old-fashioned bellows camera "cake" as an entry in the culinary division.
Unlike the regular cakes and pies that are judged for flavor and artistry, novelty cakes like this are allowed to be made from styrofoam and then frosted with an icing that won't melt.
Below, you'll see the beginning of our creation. We've cut square styrofoam cake "dummies" into the shapes and sizes we need, along with a few extras cut out of cardboard. We'll be dipping some of the pieces in chocolate and then icing the rest, hopefully giving the appearance of a camera with pleated leather bellows.
Stay tuned!
